Peacebuilding Through Exchange

ICJA Freiwilligenaustausch weltweit

Founded in 1949 in post-war West Germany as a peace organisation, ICJA Freiwilligenaustausch weltweit has grown into a global network with partners in over 40 countries across all continents. Since 2002, our headquarters have been in Berlin, where we continue our mission of fostering dialogue, solidarity, and intercultural understanding.

As a member of ICYE – International Cultural Youth Exchange, we offer international volunteer programs, workcamps, and peace education initiatives in schools and non-formal settings. Our work focuses on global education and conflict-sensitive engagement, particularly through partnerships in the Global South. Since 2015, our Young Activists for Peace workshops have empowered youth to address issues like nonviolent conflict resolution, ICJA also launched a dedicated peace event series.

ICJA Team

Today, ICJA employs 35 staff members at Berlin Global Village and our office in Friedrichshain and works with ca. 300 volunteers. Our mission is: “ICJA Freiwilligenaustausch weltweit promotes practical peacebuilding and civic engagement through international encounters and intercultural education.”
